The Pitt120V builds on the Pitt-3 aerosol generator lineage originally described by Weyel et al. for resuspending inhalable particles from bulk cotton dust. The Pitt-3 design has also been referenced in studies involving cotton dust, silica powder, fly ash, cellulose dust, and later modified aerosol-generation systems.
