Comparison of Four Sample Concentration Methods for Flow Cytometry

A poster by scientists at Beckman Coulter entitled, Sample Concentration Method Analysis Utilizing Portable Dried Reagents (DuraClone™) and a Bench-top Flow Cytometer (CytoFLEX™) presented at the CYTO 2017 Meeting compared four concentration methods -  centrifugation with PALL Sentino™ disposable filtration using glass filtration, and the Concentrating Pipette™ for concentrating 1 liter samples from industrial cooling towers prior to analysis with the CytoFLEX Flow Cytometer. Each method was analyzed for both speed and recovery efficiency.

Results: The Concentrating Pipette yielded the highest total aerobic bacteria recovery at 71% and was the quickest method, taking just 16 minutes to concentrate 1-liter samples.
