ENVIRONMENTAL
The InnovaPrep liquid-to-liquid concentrator can be an important tool for the rapid detection of pathogens present in the environment at low levels. Two potential areas of application for the InnovaPrep liquid-to-liquid concentrator include the detection of cyanobacteria and Harmful Algal Blooms in ocean and recreational waters and detection of Legionella in cooling tower waters. Cyanobacteria can produce powerful toxins that have resulted in human deaths. Rapid detection of algal blooms could allow for preventative measures to be taken before humans or animals are affected. Legionella is the gram-negative bacterium that causes Legionnaire’s disease, The organism was first identified in 1976 after being blamed for the deaths of 34 people that had attended an American Legion conference in Philidelphia.
